The Reverend Sandra Haines-Murdocco Retires

During the short time we have known Sandra her energy and leadership, together with that of the Rev. Becky Anderson, have been incredibly uplifting for our parish. In leaving, Sandra wished the Saint Paul's parish "all the best for its future – one filled with joy and unlimited possibilities". We wish her a bright, joyful and healthy future as well.

Hockey Championship

When Sandy and Bill Steadman, of St. Paul’s Church in Portsmouth, turned on the computer one Saturday in March to watch a hockey game, they were unprepared for what was to come.

Their team was not supposed to be in the playoffs, let alone the finals. And here they were, breaking all records, blowing all predictions - playing in the NCAA Division 3 Women’s Hockey Championship game.

Bill and Sandy, avid hockey fans, were especially inspired by one payer, number 24 on the Elmira team - Taylor Steadman, their granddaughter. Taylor shot the only goal of the game in the second period. The Steadmans were also inspired by the attitude of the Elmira team, and quoted a team member as saying, “A player can win a game, but it takes a team to win a championship!”

Taylor, in team colors, poses on the ice with her sister and brother. Read more about the victory at the Elmira web site.
